Based in South East Queensland and recognised as high profile professional public artists, Rick Hayward
and Emily Devers have frequently collaborated as Frank & Mimi since 2011, and have been invited to create
contemporary large scale artworks across Australia and Internationally.
Rick Hayward is now translating 15 years of traditional sign writing and 8 years of collaborative public art
into a contemporary studio and public art practice. With a reductive visual approach and environmental and
anthropological attentiveness Hayward explores the space between craftsman and artist, investigating
notions of the human condition as it exists in flux between natural and built environments.
Emily Devers is a mid-career Contemporary Artist who is driven to combine the faithful representation
of objects and environments through realism, and the subsequent abstraction of these through abstract
mark making. Devers draws direct reference from her surroundings, often using imagery captured on film
and collaging these with digital images to highlight the disconnect between actual and representational -
experienced and remembered.
Together, Hayward and Devers have created engaging large scale public artworks for communities around
the world including South East Queensland, Sydney, Wollongong, Adelaide, Melbourne, New Zealand, Hawaii,
California, Mexico and Morocco, stimulating imaginations and conversations in thier wake.
