Frank & Mimi worked with Queensland Rail as part of their positive pARTnerships program to visually activate Doomben Railway Station. Frank & Mimi created friendly and approachable artworks for visitors and commuters, and iconic in the eyes of Doomben locals.
Of particular interest to us conceptually was the idea of “Home”. The visually striking Yuggera tree fern and how it lead to Doomben's namesake, the industrial history of the Doomben station, and a focus on the horse-racing culture are all tied to the idea of Home and what it means to Doomben.
All three artworks are painted in an Art Deco style - a style that was prominent in the earlier part of last century as it was synonymous with modern ideas of innovation and progress.
